Commissions
Receiving a commission from a new client or an established collector is always a serious honor, and an exciting challenge. I endeavor to bring my skill and vision to each unique subject, be it a portrait, still life or landscape, and to provide the client with a an heirloom quality portrait masterpiece of the highest standards.
While seated sessions are possible, for convenience most subjects prefer that I work from a photograph. In such a case it is best to present several images to choose from before making full enlargements. In order to have an accurate portrayal, there must be a good quality image of the subject to paint from.
I work from photographs, email images, notes and sketches. Preliminary sketches and full size final sketches are presented for clients approval or for any necessary adjustments. To schedule your free consultation, contact me any time. Please email me with any questions you might have. I am always happy to discuss your needs.
Commission pricing is determined by the size of the portrait, complexity of the background and number of individuals in the portrait. Prices are for a single subject, unframed. For additional subjects, add 30%-50% to the total cost. Travel expenses, framing costs, shipping fees and any state or city sales tax, where applicable, are additional. The following cost estimates are based on oil portraits painted against simple tonal backgrounds.
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required for materials. Balance is due upon completion of commission and acceptance by the client. I appreciate your interest in my art. I am ready to help you with any questions you may have about portrait commission work. You are welcome to send me inquiries using this website's contact page.

My wife Jeanne is beautiful on the outside AND the inside. Although I had never thought of getting Jeanne's portrait painted before, Shijun's work was so beautiful, that it seemed the most natural thing in the world to do. Shijun combined my favorite traditional southwest Pueblo Indian motifs (I'm an archaeologist) with Jeanne's beautiful face. It all paid off--Shijun caught my vision exactly. Jeanne loves it--told me I was a "romantic". For a very un-romantic guy, it doesn't get any better. - Dr. Dave Crass GA 2008
