I have been teaching art classes professionally for over twenty years. Inspired by a lifelong desire to express myself through art and a graduate of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China 1987, I have been recipient of numerous awards for my artistic achievements in both painting and art instruction. Many aspects of art is taught, including design, composition, color theory, and technique. Each student is encouraged to paint what appeals to them, including subject matter and style. Teaching Philosophy
My enthusiasm for art is boundless and I love sharing that with my students. Because of my studio, art history, art criticism and aesthetics experience base I am able to structure meaningful art experiences for my students. I build comprehension of the elements of art and the principles of design in each project I assign. I believe that art can help students by encouraging problem solving and critical thinking.
Art can be a social effort that builds an exchange between the artist and viewers. I provide opportunities for parents, friends and the community to appreciate student artwork. Students are taken on field trips or “virtual” trips to examine master works or interesting environments.

Shijun Art Studio represents small groups and you can always customize any special projects you may have. Student ages begin at 6 years and up,8 week session (2 hour sessions). Lessons can be broad, covering many different types of art-making, or they can focus specifically on one type — it's up to you and your child! We get excited to create opportunities for children to be challenged and engaged in the art making process. Some lessons will entail the creation of an art piece from start to finish while others may create a masterpiece over the course of several classes. Classes are payable at beginning of classes. For advanced classes in watercolor, oil painting, sumi-e the cost of supplies is not included in the class fee.

Shijun Munns Monet inspired Yoga Cat really got to me. Not in a bad way but in a way that I am still trying to accept that my baby Josephine is gone.When I first saw the lesson, I thought it was precious and I tried to attempt to copying the composition and I could not draw the cats position for the life of me. So I created from the heart and imagined myself with her IN the composition. Where I live, Calvera dolls are very popular. I threw some turpentine down and saw the figure of Josephine the way I saw it and went from there. Those eyes drove me crazy and her fur was so soft...Thank you Shijun for touching us with your culture and soft lesson. I wanted to do the same and bring South Texas culture into the group that again, I am so glad to be a part of. Everyone is talented here.2018
